Syllabus:

Matrix Algebra:

Review of matrix, properties, types of matrices, Determinants and various properties. Rank of a matrix. System of linear equations, linear dependence and dimension. Matrices, elementary row operations. System of linear equations as matrix equations and the invariance of its solution set under row-equivalence. Row reduced matrices, row-reduced echelon matrices.

 

Differential Equation:

Differential equation of first order and first degree; Exact, variables separable, homogeneous and linear differential equations, Bernoulli’s equation, ODEs of first order but not of first degree; Clairaut’s equation – singular solution, tac-locus, nodal locus, cuspidal locus.

 

Higher order linear equation with constant coefficients; Complementary function, Particular integral, method of undetermined coefficients, Symbolic Operator D; variation of parameters; Euler’s homogeneous equation and deduction to an equation of constant coefficients; Second order linear equation with variable coefficients: exact equation: reduction of order; variation of parameters; reduction to normal form; change of independent variables.

Simple eigenvalue problems. System of linear differential equations with constant coefficients.
