The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Aliah University currently offers one PG-level course, Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC).

The department is steadfastly working towards comprehensive and holistic syllabi, that include audio-visual literacy where the students do not just become passive consumers but also active producers of media content.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is centrally located at our Park Circus campus in the heart of the city. It has the vision to emerge as a state-of-the-art professional and an academic center for excellence, with the latest media studios in audio-visual production, a hugely stocked library, efficient academicians, and some of the most promising students.

Since its inception in 2013, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication incorporates a holistic approach to integrate media professional skills and techniques with academic rigour to produce a well-tuned generation of media professionals, who are aware and up-to-date with the evolving challenges of the field.

Vision:

To strive to develop a critical understanding of media through its engagement with other social institutions and foster an integrated and sustainable solutions-oriented journalism education approach that caters to all sections of society.

Mission:

To aim at becoming a Centre for Excellence in Journalism and Media Education that lays equal focus on professional needs, academic research, and interdisciplinary collaborations for an integrated and advanced system of modern, secular, and inclusive education.

Objectives: 

1.     Explore media’s intersectionality with society, polity, culture and technology

2.     Understand patterns of media ownership and control

3.     Promote pluralism and inclusive value-based media and journalistic practices

4.     Inculcate a broad understanding of innovative approaches to Media Convergence

5.     Encourage production of significant media products in tune with the contemporary requirements

6.     Negotiate the Information Superhighway on New/social media with critical thinking and core journalistic skills

7.     Facilitate research to foster democratisation, social values and inclusivity in Media Education.
