BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
The department of Biological Sciences, Aliah University came into existence in 2015 with support from MA & ME, Govt. of West Bengal.
The department is established with high quality infrastructure facility which includes central instrumentation facility and well-equipped laboratories. Students are exposed to the most modern and up-to-date curriculum and contemporary developments in various disciplines of biological sciences. In addition to this, we also aim to develop excellent scientific and academic skills in our graduate students. Eminent Scientists have been members of the board of studies to guide for the teaching programme.
The first batch of students joined in 2016 when the department offered a 5 year Integrated BSc MSc Program with three specializations; Botany, Zoology and Microbiology. Subsequently, CBCS system was implemented with separate UG and PG programs. As of now, the four year UG program as per NEP 2020 was implemented in 2023 in Botany, Zoology and Microbiology with multiple exit options. The registration of students in Academic Banks of Credits (ABC) is presently underway.
The students are exposed to fundamentals of basic and applied biology along with recent advancements. Emphasis is given to hands on training in techniques through practical, industrial visits and project work. The course follows semester and Grade system with continuous evaluation.
VISION of the DEPARTMENT
•To impart the latest knowledge in the field of Biological Sciences and equip the students with advanced experimental skills to shape them to become distinguished academicians/ scientists/ researchers/ entrepreneurs to serve the society, country and humanity at large.
•To develop leadership qualities among students and make them aware of the importance of natural resources, its conscious utilization and hazards associated with unplanned or badly planned human activities that are going to affect the existence of future human generations and all other living beings on earth.
