JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATION

About the department

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Aliah University was established in 2013. JMC Department offers one PG-level course, Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC).

The Journalism and Mass Communication course is one of the few MA degree programs offered in West Bengal, where most universities and colleges offer diploma courses. This ensures that prospective students have a more comprehensive array of choices, both in terms of professional placements in media houses, newspaper organizations, and the corporate sector, and a choice for academic advancement to pursue higher research, possible only after an M A degree.

While there is a strong demand for these courses nationally and internationally, we at Aliah groom our students to meet their needs at the workplace and teach communicative/language skills in interpersonal relations. The course gives essential expertise in problem-solving and decision-making. Therefore, the course is not just 'theory oriented' but is also 'industry-friendly.'

The department is steadfastly working towards comprehensive and holistic syllabi, including audio-visual literacy, where the students become passive consumers and active media content producers.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is centrally located at our Park Circus campus in the heart of the city. It has the vision to emerge as a state-of-the-art professional as well as an academic center for excellence, with the latest media studios in audio-visual production, a hugely stocked library, efficient academicians, and some of the most promising students.
