About the department
The Department of Geography is one of the pioneer departments of Aliah University established in the year 2009. It is located at the Park Circus Campus, 17, Gorachand Road, Kolkata-700014. The first session began with only 20 students of 2-Year M.Sc. and only 06 students of 5-Year Integrated M.Sc. in 2009-10. The department presently offers 4-Year B.A./B.Sc. and 2-Year M.A./M.Sc. courses. In addition, the Ph.D. degree programme is also conducted by the department. Research and teaching are given adequate importance by the faculty members. Research projects are encouraged to develop innovative and analytical approach to learning. Experts in different allied fields are also invited for interaction and curriculum development, whenever necessary. Numbers of scholars are actively engaged in publishing their research paper in highly reputed Journal likes Springer, Elsevier, Taylor etc., recently last highest impact factor 9.29 paper was published by one of our scholars. Number of students employed as an Assistant Professor through WBCSC and WBPSC, Assistant Teacher through WBPSC, WBSSC; WBMSC, and other private organization. Besides, many students enrolled for higher education in premier institutes the country namely, IIT, JNU, IIPS (Mumbai), JMI, AMU, BIT Mesra (Ranchi) and also abroad. A part from above said programme, department is offering value added courses in Remote Sensing and GIS for the students to access the most updated knowledge of this branch of Geography which is emerging as a potential area of recruitment.
