Dr. Sk. Kabita Assistant Professor / BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

Email : kabita@aliah.ac.in

Address : Dept. of Biological Sciences, Aliah University, IIA/27, New Town, Kolkata - 700160, India.

Room No : Faculty Room, 8th Floor, Left Block

I joined the Department of Biological Sciences, Aliah University, on 1 October 2019 as an Assistant Professor. Prior to this appointment, I served as an Assistant Professor of Zoology at Raja Peary Mohan College through the recommendation of the West Bengal College Service Commission.

I obtained my Ph.D. in Fish Reproductive Physiology under the supervision of Dr. Panchanan Nath, Professor of Zoology, Visva-Bharati University. My doctoral research focused on fish reproductive endocrinology, with particular emphasis on the biochemical and physiological regulation of vitellogenin (Vg), the principal yolk precursor protein governing oocyte development and reproductive maturation.

Building upon this foundation, my current research focuses on sustainable aquaculture through the integration of fish nutrition, immunology, reproductive physiology, and conservation biology. Major research areas include microalgae-based functional aquafeeds, nutritional modulation of fish health and reproduction, aquatic ecotoxicology, and conservation strategies for native and endemic fish species.

Education

  • Ph.D in Zoology, Visva Bharati University, 2015, Thesis title: " In vivo effects of vitellogenin on plasma gonadotropin and estradiol-17β levels in catfish (Clarias batrachus) during its annual reproductive cycle"
  • M.Sc in Zoology, Visva Bharati University, India
  • B.Sc in Zoology, Visva Bharati University, India

Teaching Experience

  • Department of Bio Sciences, Aliah University, (5 Years; October 2019 onwards); Undergraduate Zoology Honours and General Courses
  • Raja Peary Mohan College, University of Calcutta (2.9 Years; January 2017 to October 2019); Undergraduate Zoology Honours and General Courses
